Oedipus Rex by: Sophocles
Here is an example of how to take notes as you read on your own, and as we read in class. The learning goals will help you focus on what you need to know in order to do well on homework, quizzes, and final assessments. When you miss a day, be sure to check the daily log here for what you missed.
Look for examples of the following as we read:

Learning Targets:
Summarize the plot of Oedipus. Explain literary devices authors use to convey their story. Understand how historical context influences author's purpose. Analyze and criticize Sophocles' writing style. |
As you read, take notes which follow the learning goals to the left. You might need to define words you don't know, find examples of literary devices being used, and identify different techniques Sophocles uses. We will work on this together as a class for the first few days, but after that, you will be expected to work on your own.

At the bottom of the page, you need to summarize, reflect and synthesize the reading for the day. The towards the end of the reading, you might want to keep in mind that for your final assessment, you will need to answer some questions about the choices Sophocles made while writing the play.
